Harrisburg boy dead after swimming pool accident
May 14, 2008

During Wednesday night's 10 pm newscast we showed some inappropriate video as part of our coverage of the drowning of a young boy in a Harrisburg pool. It was not our intention to sensationalize or show graphic detail as part of our coverage of a local event. This was corrected so the video would not re-air during later newscasts. This video did show to our web page for a time and has since been removed. FOX43 News has spent many years working to gain your trust. Out philosophy is to report on the events, and at the same time, remain sensitive to feelings of those affected by the events. We do offer our heart felt sympathies and condolences to the family of the young victim.

HARRISBURG- Community members in Harrisburg mourn the death of a seven-year-old boy.

Timothy Moore was playing at a playground in the Hall Manor section of the city with two other boys Wednesday, before scaling the eight-foot-tall fence of the Penn National Pool. He dove off the diving board into the murky water below.

Police and S.C.U.B.A. divers were called in. His body was pulled from the water 45 minutes later.

Nicole Link, a family friend, is sad about the loss.

"He's a child, and nobody wants to see that happen to somebody else's child," she said.

Link said barbed wire should be installed at the top of the fence to keep kids out. Joseph Martin believes the answer is developing activities for the neighborhood children.

"I think it's pretty much sad, because the kids don't have anything to do," Martin said.

Following the drowning, the pool was drained – hopefully preventing others from making a deadly decision.

A memorial fund has been established to cover funeral costs. Contributions can be made payable to "City Treasurer" and mailed to the Mayor's Office, 10 north 2nd street, Harrisburg, Pa. 17101.
