Mother of fallen U.S. soldier reflects on war's anniversary
March 19, 2008

COLUMBIA, LANCASTER COUNTY — The fifth anniversary of the Iraq War caused one Lancaster County woman to reflect with patriotism and a heavy heart.

Barbara Benard's son, Staff Sergeant Brent Adams, was killed in Iraq more than two years ago.

He was 40 years old, with a wife and a young son.

Barbara says it was difficult to lose her son, but she continues to support the troops who are currently in Iraq – so that they can come home safely.

"There are all these families out there that are going through this pain and grief and suffering," she said. "It's not just my story; it's thousands of stories like this one."

Barbara is a member of U.S. Military Mothers and Friends, as well as Gold Star Mothers. Both groups provide support and supplies to soldiers in Iraq.
