Dog Saves a Woman's Life
March 23, 2008
MIDDLESEX TOWNSHIP, CUMBERLAND CO. —
Mia's heroic actions saved a woman's life.
But Mia is not a firefighter or a police officer. She's a 5-year-old Irish Water Spaniel.
It was 4 o'clock on Thursday, and Mia's owner, Joy Campbell, was getting ready for work. Campbell stood in the bathroom, when she heard Mia barking in front of a bedroom door.
"She wouldn't be quiet, no matter what I did. She kept barking and barking, and growling and growling and everything else," Campbell said.
Mia kept on barking, so Campbell followed her.
"She just backed into momma's room. Once she got to momma's bed, she stopped, and I saw what was going on," she said.
Campbell's mother, Gail, was falling into a diabetic coma. Campbell immediately dialed for help, and her mother received treatment.
If not for the dog's barking, Campbell would have gone to work, and Gail may not be alive today.
Besides possibly saving a life, Campbell made sure Mia got something in return. To reward her life-saving actions, Mia got a big, juicy steak.
