Local Company Helps Myanmar
May 6, 2008

LANCASTER — A local organization is among those from around the world trying to help the people of Myanmar.

But it too is running into some obstacles along the way. The problem is they're in the dark when it comes to what type of help is needed.

The leaders of Care Force have their eyes glued to the television, watching the destructive images half way around the world in Myanmar.

"The devastation is amazing. It's incredible what's happening there," said Vicente Ramos, of Care Force.

A powerful cyclone slammed the military state, killing tens of thousands of people, many more are still missing.

The organization is preparing to send relief supplies.

"They're saying that it's very difficult to find a way to distribute aid over there and get the help they need over there," added Ramos.

An estimated one million people may be homeless as entire villages have been totally eradicated.

Aid agencies, like Care Force, are having a difficult time assessing the damage and needs on the ground, due to the military regime's

"Let the United States come and help you help the people. Our hearts go out to the people of Burma," said President Bush.

"He's also trying to get them to open their borders so we can get in there and do even a greater job that as Americans we would be able to do," said Howard Paslay, of Care Force.

Gathering the goods is one thing. Getting them there is a completely different challenge.

Care Force wants to make sure they reach the right people; the people in need.

Care Force is preparing to work with other ministries in the region, sending the supplies the people so desperately need. They are expecting to make a shipment within three weeks.
