Figuring out your real age
May 7, 2008
There's a theory that 70 percent of your overall health is determined by your lifestyle choices. So you may be able to turn back the clock – just by changing your habits.
"Real age is the actual age of your body," said Dr. Michael F. Roizen, the co-founder of Realage, Inc. "Your real age can be many years older or younger than your calendar age."
Here's how to figure out your real age:
- If you work out, take 9 years off your age.
- If you get between 6-8 hours of sleep a night, take off another three years.
- Using a cell phone while driving is not good. You'd have to give back two years.
- If you wear a seatbelt though, you can take another three years off.
- The daily flosser can bank up to six years.
- Laughter, relationships and being a lifelong learner can drop another six.
- Eating a low fat diet with fruits and veggies – another 6.
- If you smoke – you could lose up to a decade off your real age.
